Restricted Frequency is a monthly newsletter that combines cultural commentary, personal narratives, creative insights, and visual storytelling from multidisciplinary artist Ganzeer. Born Mohamed Fahmy in 1982 in Giza, Egypt, Ganzeer gained international recognition for his street art during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution and has since worked across comics, design, painting, and writing. The newsletter covers art-making, writing, design processes, cultural criticism, and personal reflections, often including updates on his ongoing projects like The Solar Grid graphic novel series, recommended readings, and occasional recipes.
The newsletter launched on Substack around 2020 and has grown to thousands of subscribers globally. Initially published weekly with a journal-like format, Ganzeer transitioned the newsletter to a monthly schedule around issue 200 in late 2023, shifting to a more focused column-style approach covering writing, design, and art-making. In 2024, he migrated the newsletter from Substack to his own platform, maintaining his direct relationship with what he describes as a community of storytellers, journalists, art-makers, and visionaries across the globe.
